Synopsis
How many children, boys and collectors of all ages have enjoyed opening up with hesitant or firm hands the small packets containing sticker picture cards, smelling them, leafing through them slowly hoping to find the ones always missing - those slipping away just like in a love game, - anticipating the pleasure of sticking them onto the sticker album, of meeting friends or other collectors to exchange doubles, to bet on them in the most imaginative ways?
As it may be easier to explain the success of sticker cards in the post-war period, when there were not many alternatives in the limited play world of kids (sticker cards represented the place of active and colorful imagination in the so far black and white media world); it is more difficult to make clear how come the march of the sticker cards still goes on relentlessly till today, having involved over four generations of children and adults.
We would like to reveal what is behind such a popular item, transversally spread all along ages, social status and education and residing countries.
The documentary, divided into six episodes, touches universal themes (collecting, gambling, socialization, the role of popular sports such as soccer and baseball). Each episode will analyze one fundamental aspect of the “sticker card phenomenon” from a cultural and social point of view, based on a research supported by the Museum of the Sticker Card of Modena, which will provide us exclusive and privileged access to the largest information data base and items collections in the world, prior to its official opening in 2006.
